YVQ - Aggregates and Crushed Rock Products

Dandy Premix, trading as Yarra Valley Quarries (YVQ) produces a range of concrete aggregates and crushed rock products at our Launching Place quarry.

The extensive Hornfels resource is VicRoads ‘Source Rock’ accredited and while the main production focus is on manufacturing 7mm, 10mm, 14mm and 20mm aggregates for concrete, a range of other crushed rock products are also produced for various civil and infrastructure works.

These include VicRoads registered ‘Mix Designs’ for:

• Class 2 Crushed Rock;
• Class 3 Crushed Rock; and
• Class 4 Crushed Rock.

YVQ also has a pug-mill for the production of cement stabilised ‘Wet Mixes’ for more specialist applications.

5mm Minus Crushed Rock Embedment is also produced and registered with South East Water, City West Water and Yarra Valley Water (collectively the Melbourne Water Retailers Association, or MWRA) in accordance with the Water Services Association of Australia, WSA PS - 361 Embedment / 5mm Minus Fine Crushed Rock, Product Specification.

Other products produced at the YVQ site include:

• Nondescript Crushed Rock (NDCR) – various grades;
• Semi-weathered Crushed Rock; and
• Screened Overburden materials, including Granitic Sand

GCS - Concrete, Embedment and Turf Sands

The Dandy Premix Grantville Commercial Sands (GCS) quarry is located adjacent to the Bass Highway, about one kilometre north of the township of Grantville.

The GCS quarry resource is a clean, free running medium to fine sand of consistent particle size and shape with adjustable drainage properties subject to blending and a low pH value.

Primarily supplying concrete sand to the Dandy Premix concrete plants, the GCS state-of-the-art screening and blending plant operations, has the ability to produce a diversity of blended natural sands suited to a range of applications including golf course construction, Sportsfield Rootzone layers, top dressing, landscaping, pipe embedment and concrete subbases.
