Victorian Cricket and Community Centre (VCCC) - Dandy Premix Quarries

The Victorian Cricket and Community Centre project involves a $40M redevelopment of the Junction Oval to deliver an International Cricket Council (ICC) compliant playing field, new training and administration facilities for Cricket Victoria and its Big Bash League teams.

The project also delivers important upgrades to the Junction Oval’s key heritage assets, the Blackie Ironmonger and Kevin Murray grandstands.

Dandy Premix was selected by specialist turf management company Pitchcraft, operating under sub-contract to Main Works Contractor, Cockram Constructions to supply and deliver 11,000 tonne of Rootzone Turf Sand to the reconstructed playing field.

SportEng designed the playing field specification and supervised approval for all Rootzone Turf Sand supplied to the project, after rigorous, independent NATA accredited laboratory testing.

Dandy Premix started manufacturing trial blends for approval in October 2016 and production of the approved Rootzone Turf Sand commenced for pre-delivery testing and stockpiling in early December. Delivery of the pre-approved material began in early January 2017 and was completed over a four week period ending the first week of February 2017.

Recent photos, videos and testimonials of the reconstructed oval, amply demonstrate how successful the partnership has been in delivery an international standard cricket wicket area and playing field for Victorian first-class men’s and women’s cricket.

The VCCC’s redeveloped Junction Oval facility, with its unique location, history and boutique character, will also benefit a diverse range of multicultural and indigenous communities, physically and intellectually disabled participants, as well as the general public for unstructured forms of passive recreation.

The expansive vision for a redeveloped Junction Oval, led by Cricket Victoria and supported by the Victorian State Government with input from other key stakeholders, is about to be realised and enjoyed by a broad-reach of Melburnians and a cross section of the almost 330,000 cricket participants throughout Victoria.

Dandy Premix is delighted and proud to have been a small part of the Cockram Constructions and Pitchcraft team entrusted with delivery of this prestigious sports facility for cricket and the wider communities of Victoria.
